“Wonderkind”

I don’t often write poetry, but these thoughts and ideas have been bouncing around in my mind for a long time. And I realize that the title of my post today is kind of a play off the song by Alanis called Wunderkind, but I like my spelling better. With that, I hope you enjoy my poem~

Magma Heart, embers burning
crystal atoms fiercely churning
Lava boiling blood aflame
Racing through ethereal veins

Eyes of blue-slashed crystal ice
Gaze upon the starry skies
Diamond tears, searing, brimming
Thoughts a-whirl, emotions swimming

Tips of fingers tingle, yearn
Pulse is throbbing, harsh and stern
Lightning neurons flash and bind
A threat to burst my fragile mind

“Release me!” shouts the power inside
But with no sage to show or guide
I’m trapped inside this mortal shell
The pain of which tastes of hell

Godlike energy grips my frame
A pow’r to which I have no name
But like the trees, I’m rooted down
My aura still stuck underground

If I could shed this carapace
Unfurl my wings from its embrace
The light I yield would sear your mind
Erase your pain, leave it behind

Of your potential, make you aware
Into the mirror you would stare
Freed from your own earthly chains
Spark a fire inside your brain

Yet here I stand, corporeal-bound
Useless mortal, celestial downed
No sacred magic to wield for you
To help you to yourself be true

The only virtue I can glean
to save you from your hellish dream
A whiplash sentence formed of words
Full of a love that sings like birds

Until the day I step away
from life, because I’ve been its prey
I’ll use the ruby that is my heart
And try to heal you through my art
